When Is It News And When Is It Recycle?

News or Recycle?
News or Recycle?

News? Or Yesterday’s News? Well, Actually 3 Years Ago.

Internet Flotsam Lives Forever!

Information on the internet tends to live forever (unless the Watchers remove it, as they have just removed a number of articles showing that cancer can remit after a case of the measles, as it did in a child with Hodgkin’s leukemia in Africa in 1971, for example).  And, like plastic in the ocean, it can go ’round and ’round and ’round.

Here’s a great example. On February 13, 2016, FreeBookZone.com posted an article* called  “28 Signs That The West Coast Is Being Absolutely Fried With Nuclear Radiation From Fukushima“.

We shared it with our Japanese colleagues in preparation for our upcoming 4 hour radio marathon on March 9, 2011 which will focus on the real situation in Fukushima and how to remediate it.

Our Japanese correspondent had questions about the source and data so we did a little checking and here is what we found:

According to Alexis FreeBookZone.com is from Malaysia (where it ranks in the top 6,000). We  could not find who owns it. It appears to be yet another news aggregation site established to generate advertising revenue.

FreeBooksZone reprinted the story from:

ViralAlternativeNews.com reprinted the identical story from:
http://www.greenmedinfo.com/blog/28-signs-west-coast-being-absolutely-fried-nuclear-radiation-fukushima

Green Med Info is a site run by a health freedom advocate we know, Sayer Ji.
So, after a “chain of connections” we get to the originator of the story, one Michael T. Snyder.

The article is dated October 2013!
While the story may have been true at the time, it is hopelessly outdated and is, through the process of time-induced “fact-fermentation”, a phrase I just made up, by the way, recycle, not news.

Check your facts.  Check your sources. Internet flotsam lives forever.

  1. M. Murata, former ambassador from Japan to Switzerland, known as “The Conscience of Fukushima” asked me to post this note from him about this article:

    —–

    Dear Fucetola-san,

Although more than two years old,the content seems to hit the target
in many ways.If updated,it will be all the more shocking. For instance, the daily
release of contaminated water into the sea is now more than 1000 tons according to
some experts like Mr. Hiroaki Koide.

It may serve to awaken the world.
    Best regards,
    Mitsuhei Murata
