Watch DeSantis’ press conference (beginning at 38:14):
When it comes to adults sexualizing children, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis does not play. He recently passed a bill that protects children from radical sexual perversion in schools. Now he is turning his attention to the horrific Drag Queen Story Hour scourge that is sweeping the nation.
DeSantis said that he intends to use the powers afforded to him under Florida law, including Child Protective Services (CPS), to protect children from exposure to hyper-sexualized Drag Queen performances.
“I’ve asked my folks to look, we have child protective statutes on the books,” DeSantis clarified during a press conference in Fort Myers Beach on Wednesday. “We have laws against child endangerment.”
Meanwhile, in places like New York, Drag Queens are paid by the taxpayer to perform at public middle schools for 5-year-olds. And they give hands-on makeup lessons to boot.
Fortunately, this kind of thing isn’t going to fly in Florida.
“You had these very young kids, and they must have been like 9, 10 years old, at a quote, ‘drag show,’ where they were putting money in the underwear of this. That is totally inappropriate. That is not something that children should be exposed to…
We probably – we may have the ability to deal with that if something like that happens… That was really, really disturbing. We want our kids to be kids. They want to have normal environment. Part of the reason why we fought the fight with parents rights in education is because there’s a movement to inject these things like gender ideology in elementary schools even.
…So we’re going to look to see what could be done under existing statutes…It used to be kids would be off-limits. Used to be everybody agreed with that. Now it just seems like there’s a concerted effort to be exposing kids more and more to things that are not age appropriate.”
