Tokyo 2020 Olympics Safety Questioned

The Conscience of Fukushima Calls Upon Olympic Committee to
Guarantee 2020 Tokyo Olympics Participant Safety

Our correspondent in Japan, former Ambassador Mitsuhei Murata provides us with a further update on the controversy over the planned 2020 Olympics in and around Tokyo.

Dear Friends,

I am sending you a copy of my message addressed to President Thomas Bach of the IOC [International Olympic Committee].

Dr. Kiyoshi Kurokawa, former Chairman of the Parliamentary Investigation Commission has kindly sent me his recent review in which he tries to explain “why Japanese leaders failed to learn from ‘historical’ and major Fukushima Nuclear Disaster followed by more and more numbers of ‘unthinkable’ scandalous incidences”.

I pointed out a new view point transcending the nation, taking into account the future of humanity and the earth. This new notion allows us to deny that the holder of the view is either unpatriotic or traitorous.

Please allow me to count on your understanding and support.

Dear President Thomas Bach,

Please allow me to send you a most enlightening review on the Fukushima nuclear accident, written by Dr. Kiyoshi Kurokawa, former Chairman of the Parliamentary Investigation Commission.

https://goo.gl/j7tHPr

In his message addressed to me he points out that the world’s view of Japan has been rapidly changing from trust to ‘unthinkably stupid and idiotic’.

In the review, Dr.Kurokawa criticizes, among others, the formal collusion between regulators and operators [of Nuclear Power Plants], the lack of a comprehensive plan for crisis management and the lack of transparency in the decision-making process.

He stresses that Japan is prone to earthquakes and other natural disasters. In this connection, recent successive earthquakes of unprecedented magnitude, last week in Gunma Prefecture and today in Osaka, are shocking the Japanese people, reminding us of the “huge mistake” to have built more than 50 nuclear reactors in Japan.

In addition to earthquakes and tsunami, volcanoes erupting in Kyuushu (Japan), Hawaii and elsewhere are ringing alarm bells.

Under such circumstances, it is only natural that the international community deems it necessary to have the International Olympic Committee take action in order to reassure the safety of the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020 based on the assertion “under control” universally denied.

This is a new view point transcending the nation, taking into account the future of humanity and the earth. This new notion allows us to
deny that the holder of the view is either unpatriotic or traitorous.

Please allow me to count on your initiative to secure the safety of the Olympic athletes and the spectators eventually visiting Japan.

With highest regards,

Mitsuhei Murata
