It’s amazing sometimes to see what the mainstream media will report and what they leave alone. Every twitch and eye roll of the current presidential campaign gets puffed up and scrutinized until the press comes across like a crowd of elementary school kids surrounding an escalating conflict, doing more taunting and name-calling than either of the would-be combatants.

By turning the leadership of one of the greatest nations in history into a juvenile shouting match, they demean us all.

They also demean us with the stories they refuse to report on in lieu of stories on the cage-match, pro-wrestling campaign.

To wit, 15 children in Syria are dead following an aborted UN program to distribute and administer a measles vaccine.

The scene sounds horrific, with mothers and fathers crying as their children helplessly bloat up and cease breathing. About an hour after being given a second round of the measles vaccine, the children began showing signs of “severe allergic shock,” said Abdullah Ajaj, a physician administering the vaccinations at a medical center in Jarjanaz, according to an AP report.

“There was shouting and screaming, it was hard for the parents,” said Dr. Ajaj. “You get your child vaccinated and then you find your child dying, it’s very hard.”

Well, yeah. One would imagine. But at least Dr. Ajaj was able to express some modicum of horror, some sense of empathy for the parents and not incidentally their children who had so recently and so brutally been taken away from them.

For their part, the UNICEF and the World Health Organization released a rather perfunctory statement:

“UNICEF and WHO have been shocked and saddened to learn of the deaths of at least 15 young children in Idlib, Syria. The deaths of the children occurred in areas where a measles immunization campaign had been under way.”

And the key words in the statement from officialdom are “at least 15 dead.” Conflicting reports from the Syrian opposition and other human rights groups put the number between 34 and 50.

WHO was said to be investigating the deaths, sending in a team of experts to establish the cause of the children’s deaths.

The immunization campaign was suspended, but both UNICEF and WHO expressed hope that it could be resumed “…as soon as possible.”

It’s sad of course when any child dies. But its especially sad when so many die at the same time, for the same stupid, unnecessary reason. Syrian people have suffered so much, it’s hard to imagine the devastation of having a child taken away from people who have already lost so much.

It’s time not only to suspend the UN and WHO programs temporarily, but to ban them permanently. Please follow the link below and do what you can to help spread the word!
